"The Chicken is in the Bucket"
Kiara left for the Mexico City Missionary Training Center on August 16, 2016. As of today, she has officially been out for one week!
This is our last family picture with Kiara. Never mind the red puffy eyes and red faces. We were all a mess! The guy that took our photo was a seminary teacher and recognized Ernie from the seminary videos he did 23 years ago. He asked for a picture with Ernie!
And she's off! (She had to bring her little carry-on that her great grandparents gave her as a kid. She loves it and refused to bring the newer and bigger one we got for her!)
This is the email we got from her later that afternoon....
Dear mother and father of Hermana Kiara Harker,I have arrived at the Mexico MTC.
My departure date is 27/09/2016.
I am in the 13B district branch.
My P day is Friday. You will hear from me next friday. Tell Talon please.
The chicken is in the bucket.
Please no packages. Google it.
Love you, love, Hermana Harker.
The "Chicken is in the Bucket" phrase was an inside joke between our family and the Stake President. His son is also serving in the same MTC and he told us that the missionary will get to write a quick email to their families when they arrive in Mexico. His son wrote a very short email stating that he arrived. That was it. We joked that "how do you know it was him??" It could be a computer generated email! So we told Kiara to say that the "Chicken is in the Bucket" so we knew it was her!
We have since learned that Kiara got to talk to Colm Laro, a young man from our ward that is also in the MTC. He said that Kiara enjoyed her first day and that she seemed to be having a good time!
